Apprenticeship Program
Dear Sisters in Dance,

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Apprenticeship Program, let me take a moment to tell you more about it. Over the years as a teacher, I've gotten many requests for specialized private lessons and intensives. Most of the students who contacted me identified a need for an intensive and individualized course of belly dance study. Students seemed to be looking for a method that would support the creation of personalized and specific dance goals, and allow for integration of physical, technical, mental, emotional and spiritual learning techniques.

In addition, students also made clear that it would be helpful to have a flexible learning schedule to accommodate all the women who couldn't necessarily commit to classes on a weekly basis, particularly students from other states and countries.

All these requests have started me thinking about creating some new ways of sharing/teaching the dance. It's out of this on-going dialogue with students, past and present, that the apprenticeship program was born.

Lorraine

"She teaches about the dance from several perspectives: as technique, as expression, as a pathway to healing, and those approaches complement each other and offer her students a very unique and powerful experience." - J.S.

"Lorraine helps her students use belly dance as a means of transforming their bodies and themselves. She has a way of helping students discover what is special and unique about them as dancers." - A.S.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What does the apprenticeship involve?
When you decide to become an apprentice , you basically commit to a
year-long course of study with me. During that year you will receive;
1) support and direction in creating your own dance goals and objectives
2) an opportunity to create your own curriculum with options of private and
semi-private lessons, classes, workshops and ongoing one-to-one consultation
3) a chance to attend special apprentice gatherings and work intensively with other like-minded dancers.

Can I study with other teachers while I am an apprenticeship?
I encourage students to continue to study with other teachers, attend
workshops and seminars, and to pursue as many as diverse dance experiences as possible. The point of the apprenticeship is to help students have a more integrated dance experience, not to exclude other instruction or input.

"From Lorraine I learned the power of metaphor in creating dance; I learned how everything from your eyes to your ears to your psoas muscles play a role in that divine creation." - K.M.
